I had the same idea with pinging the wifi IP on the phone, but when my phone is locked, it is disconnected from wifi. How’d you over come that?
I don’t. That issue causes a delay to Jarvis’s detection of my presence, which is why I didn’t use my iphone originally. I used RFID tags. More reliable, you just have to remember to scan in and out. The new iPhone detection thing is secondary, a backup.
