Retiring Project Jarvis & launching Spark Theory Labs

For over the past year, I have spent a large amount of time, energy, and money on following this idea I had, and to say it was a roller coaster would be an understatement.

It all started with a fun concept to explore, and grew into something much bigger, and better than I could have ever expected. It was all surreal and unbelievable to me. I did a series of public talks, which I really enjoyed doing, met a lot of great people, became a finalist at MassChallenge, started a company, and much more.

Above all, Project Jarvis was a learning experience to me; not just in coding, but in creativity, connecting with people, business, and entrepreneurship. I don’t have many regrets looking back, but the one I feel deepest is the way I communicated and connected with my audience. I didn’t respond to as many emails as I wanted, and when I did, the answers might have been too short. A lesson learned the hard way, but learned nonetheless.

Today I am announcing the retirement of Project Jarvis. In the end, I just don’t have the resources to execute this project in the way that it should be.

However, I never like to close one door without opening another. I make it a rule in life to always leave myself open to the universe in some way or form. So, today I am also announcing the launch of Spark Theory Labs, a website that will act as an umbrella for all of my coding projects to go under. A brand if you will, to act as a single repository, portfolio, and blog representative of me, my coding, and ventures in learning to better myself. Everyone is invited to check it out, and learn about my latest project in development, Twitter Spam Assassin.

Thanks to everyone for being so enthusiastic about Project Jarvis, and for being such strong supporters. I hope you understand how life changing and significant your support was for me, and I thank you…

After reading about Jarvis close to a year ago, I and I'm sure many others, are excited for a release. When can we expect to see a product take shape for our home use?

In response to the Active RFID question someone posed, have you considered leaving Bluetooth on on your iPhone and having a device detect your iPhone's Bluetooth?

Now that you are unemployed are you looking for work or concentrating on Jarvis full-time?

have you ever thought of using active RFID by your door so you wouldn't have to worry about not "signing in"?

how do you intergrate your facebook notifications into Jarvis? and how can you speak to him through IM?

Are you a gamer? And if so what games do you play the most?

How'd you remove the need to say the word "Execute" or "Ok" to complete a command via MacSpeech Dictate? Also how do you overcome Jarvis hearing his name from let's say a movie, or other background source?

how do you teach jarvis ?and also how its possible to communicate with jarvis(or another pc) by twitter?

Any future video updates/upgrades of your Jarvis system?

That ping trick for the iPhone is a cool idea, can you share the applescript code for that?

What would you do with a million dollars?

I had the same idea with pinging the wifi IP on the phone, but when my phone is locked, it is disconnected from wifi. How'd you over come that?

could you provide or look into giving help and advice to windows users. becaus at this point in time a mac is way out of reach unless someone is selling at very cheap price

Do you have any idea what the price point would be for Jarvis and how much time it would take to incorporate the system into a room or household?

do you still use the rfid door login? will you ever post a schematic or tutorial? have you ever thought of using an xbee wireless antenna to send the data instead of a usb cable? and finally are you using an arduino to control it or a homemade version?

How do you get JARVIS to detect if your iPhone is on the wifi network or not?
